This could be a whole new topic. I'm a bit older. The first car I ever bought was in 1964. I think I had it for a year or two before I ever paid over $.25 a gallon for gas. Gas stations used to have "price wars" back in those days, and it wasn't unusual to see gas for $.15 a gallon. With my car, I could drive 400 miles for about $3. Of course, back in those days I made about $1 an hour - so that was over 3 hours' work (after deducting for taxes). Today, driving an SUV around town a bit over two hours' work will get me 400 miles. I guess price per gallon isn't the whole story.
