Homecooking is wonderful, but it is important to follow a recipe prepared by a canine nutritionist to make sure it is balanced and you are adding the proper supplements. Dogs, for instance, need about twice as much calcium as we do, and the calcium to phosphorus ratio needs to be correct or they can have skeletal, cardiac and neurological problems.

Of course it's fine to give Stormy an occasional taste of chicken or egg you make for your family along with her kibble. Just make sure you never feed her fatty meats like bacon, sausage or ham that can trigger pancreatitis or human foods that are toxic to dogs like grapes or onions.
