I agree and disagree. While a lecture wouldn't be appropriate, it is productive to explain the conditions in pet stores that could have caused/contributed to the illness so that appropriate treatments can be taken. They also must tell a vet that their pup is from a pet store or unknown breeder/ possible puppy mill, so that treatment can be appropriate. If you don't know that, you might not think to tell your vet.
Just as it's important for a doctor to know that a child may have been in a neglectful or abusive/unsanitary environment, our vets need that information as well.
