Default None until vet checked

Since you don't know if she has been previously treated, then it is important for the vet to TEST for heartworm FIRST before treating. I read that if doses are missed for 3 months, you should test before restarting too, because if a dog has heartworms and the preventions kill them off it can be fatal.

Since heartworm is spread by mosquitoes, you can judge somewhat by where she lives or lived how much risk she is exposed to.

See the vet first, be safe, and they will advise you.

Beyond that I use Heartgard treat type that also covers some types of worms. But I don't believe I'd use the type that also covers fleas. Too much.

Enjoy that new girl!
