I think when they're playing it's like them killing something in the wild. My boyfriends family has a chihuahua mix and when she gets a toy she'll sit there and bite till she finds the squeeker!!!

My baby recently started doing that to, just biting down on the squeeker. So my guess is the whole killing, but it could be something else! It's funny though.
