I haven't read all the responses on this thread, it's really long, but I just wanted to say, Lucie has peed on my new mattress god only knows how many times now...We haven't flipped it to its other side because I know she is bound to pee on it again. You can get a plastic cover to put on it though..one pee accident isn't going to be the end of it.
It sounds like maybe you should try getting a trainer to come to your home and help you out.

Maybe he needs more attention when you are home, or more time outside if he has energy that he's not burning off during the day.
I know my two start acting up when I have a busy week where I am not home as much.. I'm sure there are options for you if you really don't want to give him up.
