Six weeks is very young to be separated from her mother, she may need to be dewormed. At nine weeks she should no longer have the characteristic Buddha Belly. When a puppy has worms the abdomen becomes distended and growth slows because the parasite is consuming a large portion of the caloric intake. This sounds terrible but is very common and easily treated. deworming begins at two weeks and is repeated every two weeks through week twelve. Be sure to take a stool sample with you to the vet visit.
It's a good idea to weigh your puppy every couple of days to monitor growth. She should grow steadily through the sixteenth week and then slow considerably. After the sixteenth week growth can be sporadic and disproportionate, continuing through the first two years. |
