FYI, indust has already posted that Teddy is fixed.

I think it's fine to keep him off the furniture. It's okay to treat a dog like a dog, and it can help them know their place. Presumably your kids get a seat at the table when you eat, which a dog does not -- and most of us are probably not saving up to send our dogs to college.
