Rock eating in Border Collies is an OCD that is why I said that it needs to be looked at.
Some of it can just be exploring but it never hurts to go ask a person with a hold bunch of neat letters behind their names what they think it could be.
It could be just a thing that got lots of attention and now is a formed behavaiour.
You could try ingoring it and redirecting the dog off what ever it shewing with little fuss and see if that helps.
