I trained my yorkie to come in one session. I basically followed Bikkhu's suggestions. I started outside in a small park -- this is the only time he's allowed off the leash outside. Whenever he came back to me, I would give him a really fabulous treat, usually a small piece of bacon. He LOVES coming back to me, especially when called. It's one of our favorite games. He runs back to me at top speed and it is pretty much the most adorable thing ever. I occasionally treat him indoors too to keep the habit consistent.

If the dog associates approaching you with a chore, he'll be less likely to do it. If he won't come in the first place, you can try switching up the chase game as suggested. You can also try getting low to the ground and making strange noises to encourage your dog to come investigate. I would bet you only need to get him to come over once to start building the habit.
