In order to make a living by selling dogs, you have to cut corners somewhere. Did your puppies parents have any health testing done? Did you see documentation? Was his liver tested before you brought him home? What food does this breeder feed? Did she provide you with any vet references? Apparently she doesn't show her dogs. All those things costs big bucks and cut into profits. I personally believe that someone who runs a dog breeding business can't have completely good intentions. If you are relying on the money, wouldn't it be tempting to breed a female one more time even if she really should be retired? Wouldn't it be tempting to get two litters a year from another female b/c her pups bring in a higher amount? Wouldn't it make it more likely that you would end up with a puppymill set up? Look at Hollybelle Maltese. That breeder started off with good intentions, she even showed, but in the end the money corrupted her. I believe something like 500 dogs were kept in cages in her garage. |
