I had the same problem with my puppy she would tear appart the carpet when I was in the shower or not paying complete attention to her. I had to wait till she had all her shots to take her for walks so I just really tried to play with her and I put her in her kennel when I left. I bought her chew toys or my cousin used a Kong toy with a treat inside it would occupie the dog for hours.......best of luck I know its hard when there is not much you can do but try to tire him out
