Default 11/18/08 Update Tarpon Springs Puppy Mill

Hello my friends, just wanted to give you an update on the current status of the 121 Tarpon Springs Puppy Mill dogs. All dogs are being fostered. There was a trial date set in October, but Teresita Hughes decline her right to a speedy trial. Attorneys for both sides exchanged documentation. The next court date was scheduled for 11/14/08. The attorney for Hughes cancelled it.
We believe he discovered that not only the Suncoast Animal League Attorney would be there, but also the Pinellas County Sheriff and a representative from the Florida State Attorney's office. Apparently the next court date is scheduled for early December. Also T Hughes has other problems as well. There is foreclosure on three of her properties, one being her home. The dogs are doing well, and when medical procedures are done - they are done when the dog's life is threatened by their condition. So all are doing as well as can be expected. Most fosters are waiting for the custody decision so they can go ahead and process adoption for their dogs in their care. The Suncoast Animal League is staying strong and is determine that she not regain custody of any of these dogs. So to sum up - none of the dogs as of this update have been returned to Teresita Hughes. We hope for all the fosters that this civil and criminal matter is resolved soon. Your continued support is appreciated. Many fund raising activities are being planned to raise money to pay off the medical bills incurred to date. PM me if you want any information regarding the upcoming fund raisers. Unfortunately this case has dragged out but the Suncoast Animal League and the foster families are strong and united.
