Reverse sneezing is very common with kennel cough. I was just at the vet for some vaccinations and spoke to my vet about kennel cough. We're having an epidemic in my neighbourhood. Kennel cough is very contagious. I live in a neighbourhood with a lot of dogs, many of them socialize on the beach at the dog park. So when kennel cough starts going around, many dogs in my neighbourhood get it. My Yorkie has had it twice in the past year. It can last up to 3 weeks or so. As long as your dog is eating and remains playful, the kennel cough is a mild irritation. You can relieve some of the discomfort with steam, like running a hot shower and keeping the dog in the bathroom. Robotussin DM is also effective (1 teaspoon per 20 pounds). I know Yorkies are usually under 10 pounds, so 1/2 teaspoon every 12 hours can help. You only need to worry if your dog starts acting ill, beyond the coughing. Vets are usually all too happy to prescribe unnecessary antibiotics or worse - after all, business is business. Your vet really should have mentioned kennel cough during your visit and at least let you know what your dog was being treated for. Forums like this are also a great place to get information!
Good luck
