We always had our shaved at about 6 mos. When the adult fur starts growing, it is a different texture than the puppy fur. It solved our problems and the adult fur did not matt like the puppy fur. I definitely agree with shaving the pup, because if you hurt them too much by trying to comb them out they will not like being brushed as they get older. And the fur grows back quickly.
