I have the pedicure and it dont take batteries. Its rechargeable. It works just fine. I have 4 yorkies and i can use it on 3 of them with no problem and with no help. My youngest, who just turned a year old, hes another story
but im still working on getting him use to it...i have used it on him though...my little grandaughter would feed him little tiny pieces of cheerios while i filed his nails..it worked
