Oh, I forgot to say welcome to Yorkie Talk. I started using the "be quite" command to remind him not to whine when he wants attention. Also, I taught him to be quite by making the "sh" sound that we learned in school to tell other people to be quite in class. After I made the "sh" sound, I would put him on his mat with a toy and ignored his whining. Every time he whined, I made the "sh" sound and he got quite. With patients and consistency, I was able to teach him these commands. Every day he whined less and less. I was teaching him not to whine for attention. I used the "be quite" command in his kennel, because he was not use to sleeping in his kennel. His breeder did not believe in putting dogs in kennels. The kennel was a very scary place for him, and I had to get him use to sleeping in his kennel at night. I had to crate train him before I allowed him to roam my room freely at night. Now he sleeps quietly on his doggy mat at night.
