My 10 1/2 year old Yorkie girl named Toto had been exhibiting some problems with her stool and vomited twice within a week (bile). I recently had her wellness test and there was a concern with her kidney and liver a little bit elevated - they proceeded to perform a urinary analysis and it came back normal. She underwent her scheduled teeth cleaning and a month later exhibited the above symptoms and she had begun to loose her appetite losing 3 lbs.
An ultrasound was performed which indicated an enlarged liver but no masses and we had two options to begin treating for CAH or perform a liver biopsy. A liver biopsy was performed (she is now on antibiotics along with a peptic type medicine)....she is eating well again and her stool is much better. The biopsy did not indicate cancer -

and the Vet believes she has a good chance for a few more years. She has now been placed on prednisone (hopefully for just a few weeks) and actigall (a bile acid that increases bile flow in the liver (wean off also in a few weeks)- denosyl a liver supplement and Vitamin E 100 to 400 IU.
In three weeks she will undergo another bloodwork to see if she has stablilized. He wants her to continue just on the chicken and rice because she is being introduced to so many new medicines and doesn't want to tax her body. I know liver disease is a weakness in Yorkie and I wanted to know if anyone's Yorkie has continued for many years after being diagnosed. I hope her life will not be riddled with pain. It doesn't seem so - even after this invasive surgery she shows such energy and galloping the Yorkie way (attempting to curtail that yet though) but my Yorkie Terror seems to be back!
