I think the lady was just answering the question, and not being disrespectful of you. New members often ask the question is their dog a real Yorkie, because he's so big, and people explain that Yorkies were once a bigger breed. A dog by the name of Huddersfield Ben is thought to be responsible for producing most of the foundation stock of the Yorkshire terrier, in the 1860's. Although he was 12 pounds he was the first to breed true to type Yorkshire terriers that were under the 7-pound limit.
By the way the standard says 7 pounds and under. I don't think Yorkies are the smallest of the toy breeds, I would think Chihuahuas are the smallest, but I'm not sure of this. |
