Say "Drop it" and show her the treat - she'll probably drop what she's holding anyway to get the treat. My Yorkie is not that smart, and it took me one session to get that one down. It's come in very handy walking him around the dirty (read: delicious) streets of San Fran. My Yorkie finds, say, a discarded orange peel on the street, and that command, uttered in my scariest voice, works wonders.
I use either the "drop it" or "leave it" command. I was just saying last night that I was going to start calling Maggie-Bandita. She steals EVERYTHING! I cannot leave any wipes, paper towels, tisses or napkins laying around. I've been preparing for Xmas making my jewelry and she has managed to steal whatever she can reach! I've really had to watch what I leave around as I work with glass beads and sharp objects.
