What about your puppy's reaction to grooming? Sookie gets literally vicious if I try to comb or brush her. Tips? |
I just noticed you were in Garland! I'm in Addison - maybe that is the area for "bad" Yorkies! I can literally brush Bennett (5 months) to sleep. I have him groomed - I don't want my scissors next to those precious eyes! But - he loves for me to brush or comb him. I don't think Bennett's is dominance - I think it is pure puppy and exploring his little world. I bought a whistle - an air horn and canned air. The canned air works great. Just a "wssh" above his head gets his attention. Bennett is in training 2 times per week and his impulse control is good. But - there is just a wild streak in him. My only other Yorkie topped out at 3 lbs - so this time, I made a choice to get the biggest in the litter. So, I know how you feel about disciplining a tiny dog. Sampson (the original) was so tiny that I felt like if I made him do anything - he would faint. This time, I knew I wanted a small dog but one that was big enough for me to feel like I wasn't scaring him each time I spoke! I wish you good luck. Each and every day I see improvement. So - hang in there!
