One of them is on Glucosomine chondroitin because she has a luxating patellar (which has improved enormously since last year, thank God).
I also want to add that i'm not a big fan of supplements. I don't think it is natural. I do it to make my vet happy. The only thing that I find useful is the Glucosomine...other than that--- they should be getting whatever they need "naturally".
Also want to add: I think that RAW is a good idea. I'm researching that now...however I do see great benefit of homecooked over kibble. Izze has become such a beautiful girl and she feels so much better now with her new diet. |
I don't like giving supplements either but if they don't get enough calcium or the cal/phos ratio isn't balanced, it is really not safe. Their bodies could start pulling calcium from their bones... Dogs need a huge amount of calcium daily that can't be met with cheese and yogurt. In the wild they get it from bones. Also, vitamins like Pet Tabs aren't meant for homecooked diets. They are used in addition to an already balanced dog food, so the vit/min levels aren't that high as far as I know. The only all-in-one supplement on the market for homecooking right now is Balance IT (not recommending it though...), Homecooking supplementation can be a lot of work.
