I would be sure that they looked for lyme disease in a blood sample before the did anything invasive. My first yorkie had that, and it became apparent when he could not stand on his rear legs, although he could pull himself up on his front ones. It was very scary but the treatment worked great and he was back to himself in a couple of days if I remember correctly. I would assume that this is one of the basic things they would have looked for when your girl friend first brought her yorkie in?
