My old dog bambi (jack russel x spaniel) used to love snacking on raw veggies most days. Everyone used to comment on how glossy her coat was and mistake her for much younger than her chronilogical age. She had immaculate teeth and used to enjoy long 5 mile walks everyday. She never had any health conditions until she became ill one day at the age of 20 where my parents were advised by the vet to have her euthanised. Now it could just be good genes or luck but i thing her diet played a part in her living til 20 with no ailments. My nan has a yorkie called Tiny who eats raw veg to, she is 18 years old and still as fit as a fiddle, she runs around chasing a ball like a dog half her age. If dogs eat too much protein without any roughage they don't poo regularly enough and it can also cause bad breath. Im open minded when it comes to my dogs they eat vegetables, some fruit (not acidic), whole grains, oily fish and flax seeds. My vet is really encouraging and said too many people believe the conception that dogs only eat meat. My dogs favourite meals are winter stew made from stewing steak lots of root veg (cooked aldente) and dog gravy from the pet shop which has no salt. They also like tuna and sardines, but they also have a complete food everyday. It's upto the individual what they feed their dogs but i think its good to try variety. |
