I am not a great dog trainer, but I try my best in making my dogs behave properly. With the Yorkie I might adopt during a trial session, the bolting out the door was because he thought he was the boss. Well, after a day or two and me enforcing that I am the leader, he no longer ran out the door and waited for me to go out first. How this was done was by making rules in the house.
He is not allowed to jump on any people. I ignored him until he sat down, and then gave affection. He is not allowed to whine or bark for attention (if he does I ignore him, but he didn't do this much). He is not allowed on furniture, unless I pick him up after he sits calmly next to me on the ground asking to be picked up, without whining. I make him sit for treats, before walks, and when I pet him. He has to walk next to me on walks, and marking/sniffing/wandering is only allowed at the park when he is off leash and about three times on our 1.3 mile walk.
I'm not sure if you are enforcing that you are the leader, but I believe this will help. Make sure on walks you make her sit for the harness and you go out when she is calm, and you go out first. |
