I have to go on business travel often, at times for months (that was more with my first yorkie who passed away and he was exceptionally smart); I can tell you for certain he knew exactly who I was when I got home. After I got back he'd hang out with me over my girl friend that had been watching him because he always bonded with me more for some reason.
But the new fur kids really give me a great greeting when I get back from travel as well (I was gone for 2 weeks last month). I do notice that now that we have two, and the male is more bonded to me and the female with my woman, that mr. Gastby hangs with the girls more for a while when I first get back, but it seems that after a couple of days, he's back to hanging with me when the woman and I are in different rooms.
The sad thing is people you love know when you will return, our furkids obviously don't, so I always feel so bad leaving them. But you have to do what you have to do to keep kibbles in the bowl!!! Have a great trip
