It is a blood test to evaluate liver function. Since Yorkies are sooooo prone to liver shunt and dogs that have this shouldn't be fed raw, it is a good idea to get it done first but I'm sure several people feed NV and haven't had this done. It's jsut good to be safe...
I think diets from nutritionists are becoming available online for free or very cheap if you want to go that way. I would just make sure the recipe meets AAFCO guidelines.
