My husband never really complains about the dogs, but he doesn't take responsibility for them either. Baxter still poops/pees in the litter box about 85% of the time. Husband can be sitting just a few feet from it, but will scream "you've got poop!",or "baxter did a stinky" and expect me to come get it.
There have been times when I got out of the shower and immediately smelled poop. I told him it takes a special kind of person to sit and smell "stinky" and wait for someone else to get it . I have just accepted that is the way he is.
In all fairness, he loves to gripe at me because I never tuck the trash bag back inside the can liner and make it look all neat the way he does. I told him just like he doesn't do poop, I don't do trash...and THAT shut him up!
