Canyon slept in his crate on my bed from day one and has slept through the entire night so I highly suggest that you put your baby in a small crate (big enough to turn around, lay down, stand) on your bed or on your nightstand next to you, where they can see you.

While you are gone, a large crate that would contain potty pads, food/water, toys, would be great or even better an x-pen or playpen so the baby has more room with all of the above items.

Congrats on the new baby!!!
