i HIGHLY Suggest crating at night- the first 2-3 nights will be hard but Layla is no 2.5 and she LOVES her crate- is actually in it now napping. She will probably cry- and will have to get up a few times during the night to pee but i think the few months of getting up at night is worth her loving her crate.
During the day i'd put her crate inside the play pen so she has access to it with her food/water pee pad and a few safe toys- i'd also leave the tv on for her. try and exercise her in the morning and when you come home at lunch so she will just sleep when you are gone.
