The softer coats matt much easier, so if you can't keep it brushed well, you should consider a shorter cut. They look nice with the legs a little longer than the body. A rounded "teddy bear" type cut on the face looks cute, too. A lot depends on the dog's coat type. Look up photos online of yorkies, maltese, and morkies and decide what you like. Just keep the matting issue in mind. After brushing, always go through the hair with a comb to make sure all the mats are out and use a good conditioner or detangler.

If you find a really good groomer, they will work with you to find a style you like. If you want something done differently, just let them know nicely. Good groomers write down exactly what they did so they can adjust it accordingly or do the exact same thing the next time you go in. Just remember communication is key. If you find a photo of one that you really like, take it in to your groomer. There are tons of options. Hope this helps.
