Bear with me.....here's a little background info:

Bella goes in this next Monday the 17th for her "re-test" since her ALT was elevated quite a bit (302!!) in her pre-op labs. They are going to do a complete blood chemistry profile and a BAT, at my request. I'll be crossing my fingers that these tests will come back normal, though I'm suspicious that they won't

(before the pre-op labs, she had been taking children's Maalox and Angel's Eyes, both of which my vet had okay'ed, and I'm hoping this may be why they were elevated, though I have talked with YT members about it being unlikely that they would have cause her ALT to be THAT high.) She has only had food since her surgery on Oct 31st, so hopefully 2 1/2 weeks will have been long enough for her levels to normalize after all those pain meds, etc...

I've been reading a lot about what Dr. Center and Dr. Karen Tobias have to say about dogs with PSVA and MVD.....in addition to having printed out all that info, I have printed an extra copy of Dr. Center's article to take with me to her appointment, which has a detailed description of how to handle blood samples in order to get the best results from the BAT. I'm sure the vet tech who draws her blood will LOVE that!

Oh, well....I just want to be sure it's done right the first time.

If these labs come back abnormal, my next step will be to have them do a Protein C test. So here is my question.....she is due for her Interceptor on the 14th, but I won't be giving that to her until AFTER her blood work because I'm told that it can interfere with the results. BUT, I won't get the results of the BAT for a few days after the draw because it is sent out (I think to Texas A&M??) Should I hold off on giving the Interceptor until AFTER the Protein C test too, if she ends up needing that? I didn't know if it would affect that test at all?? I think we are probably finished with mosquitoes this year since we've already had our first freeze and will be having our 2nd tonight, so it isn't really urgent that she takes her Interceptor. What do you all think??
