I think if your grout isn't sealed... the smell will stay in it... I have linoleum under my xpens in sunroom ... over our tile floor... because the grout isn't sealed... I believe the sealer inhibits anything from penetrating the grout.

But I would try all suggestions to get the odor out. Good luck!
