Even tho he is 7months old it looks like he has had no official potty training.
It takes time and patience. Everytime he goes on the pad treat him.
Something special, piece of chicken perhaps something he does not get
any other time. It does no good to reprimand him when he has an accident.
You don't want to scare him and make him afraid of you.
A schedule is key. Take him out immediately in the am. The earlier the better.
Feed him and give him water. After drinking he should go out again within
20 mins to relieve himself. The saying is a pup can hold his bladder 1hr for each month he is, however, he has had no training yet so your starting
from the beginning. It is important to take him out as late as you can in the pm. Do not put water in his crate during the night until he can get threw the night with no accidents. Be patient, it will happen. Also do not use the crate
as a punishment only for comfort and sleeping should the crate be used.
Gate the kitchen or bathroom during the day with pee pad down if you don't crate him. Take him out often and treat him when he goes. He will make the connection. Make sure the treat is something he looks forward too. Peanut butter on your finger is also a good
treat. They soon learn that when they go potty outside this special reward
is given and he will be on his way.
Congratulations on your new puppy. It's hard for a guy to realize they now
have a baby on their hands but in time he will be your best bud.
