I grew up with a Maltese and have my a baby Ella Bean now - Maltese hair mats like crazy! I agree - it offers no protection from the cold, so I keep her (and my childhood Maltese Sammi) very short.
That said, again, the power of an excellent conditioner, and detangler is just incomparable!!!
