I usually clip my Maltese down to a couple of inches during the winter. I know he's going to be wearing clothes a lot more and it really helps with the matting. I have no idea about "Morkies," but I don't think Maltese coats really offer that much insulation, no matter how long they are. Having said that I wouldn't shave one naked; always leave an inch or two of hair.
