I've read that lower quality kibble has flavor additives to make it more palatable because its ingredients are not appealing to dogs. I doubt your yorkie cares what color or shape it is. It may be that it's just fun to swipe it from the other dog. As far as feeding the other dog lower quality food because it's a "mongrel"....all I can say is I'm a "mongrel" I guess and I definitely am healthier when I eat good food. I do agree that the yorkie would probably be more likely to show health issues or allergies if fed junk food than the bigger dog but I think it's a matter of size rather than breeding. I have 2 yorkies and a larger mixed breed. If I switch foods for one reason or another I usually have my larger dog finish up the leftover reject brand (mixed in with the new stuff) because she seems to thrive on anything anyway.
