Default eye runs

The smell is caused by the moisture turning into what they call a 'red yeast infection.' I have found if you take people eye drops (cheap brand will do) - use this to clean the stained area. Works better than any otc products I've found for dogs. I believe its the boric acid that does the job. Which is in all eye drops.

If you could find a very gentle eye wash (basically boric acid) to wash out your furbabies eyes from time to time, it might help to.

Sometimes there could be a eyelash turned inwards which is causing an irritation to the eye causing it to react by running. Also, stopped up tear glands can cause this. You should really check with your vet on these two items.

Also, allergies could be the problem. Yorkies are so low to the ground, they encounter. Stay away from corn grains in dog food.

Hope this helps.
