I had to do the same thing, when I first brought my yorkie home.
But he will eat the dry food on his own now, when I moisten it with hot water.
I leave some dry food in a dish for him to.
He nibbles on that between the wet stuff throughout the day.

When I make my morning coffee, I take the hot water from the kettle and put it in his dry food. Then let it cool completely.
