Is Max one that will chew on anything!? A lot of issues with puppies vomitting can be from foregin bodies---they can ingest toys, strings, carpet, pebbles, anything, and this can make them throw up. Even if he is still acting fine, I would really take him to the vet to see if they can do xrays to make sure he didnt ingest something he shouldnt have.
when I worked for a vet, we had a 6 month old doxie come in with the same symptons, and turned out he swolled a stone!
if you dont think he got into anything, he may just eat really fast, and it can cause him to vomit up food. If he really eats fast, you can try putting less food in his bowl, or even adding a tennis ball so he has to work around it, making him slow down eating.
