Wookie is doing well!!!! First I want to thank everyone who was so great to me yesterday when I was so stressed! It was great to talk with people who understand and have been there.
Wookie is healing great from his surgery. He got so tense during his exam though, that the dr really couldn't check for soreness. She said it felt like trying to squeeze an oatmeal container! He is soooo sick of being messed with! And I got to give him a bath last night for the first time since the surgery. He was a stinky mess!
Now about the luxating patella. Yes, he has a mild case, which I basically already knew. She doesn't seem to think it has advanced though. She feels what happened was that it was just aggravated during the surgery. She explained that when dogs lie on thier backs thier legs naturally pull into thier bodies. During surgery the legs are pulled out straight and this is very unnatural for them, and he had to be that way for a couple hours. She thinks that just aggravated the knees and is causing them to bother him now. She couldn't manipulate either knee into doing anything, but then again, he was very very stiff and wasn't really letting her mess with him. She said that typically an aggravation like this will take 3-6 weeks to heal, just to try to keep him from jumping (yeah right) and a little less active. If it doesn't get better in that amount of time then we will check it again then.
And as far as finding a new vet, I think I have it! They were wonderful there! As far as my decision to do titer testing in place of vaccines they said they would support that and do whatever makes me comfortable. I got a really good feeling there! Just like I do in here! Thanks again to everyone for being there for me! It is a great feeling especially since I am new here! |
