I have had my baby Lila since she was 8 weeks old. I never had ANY intention on breeding her and always planned on getting her spayed. Well time (and I guess a loss of finances) got away from me and she began her heat cycle 2 days ago. She's 8 1/2 months. I am livid with myself. I have read all about the possibilities of cancer if females aren't spayed when they are young and I am distraught knowing I may have put her at risk due to my procrastination. I just always assumed I had a little bit more time. She's been spotting blood of course, and her vulva is swollen (which she licks constantly) but she seems to be acting normal otherwise. The only time we come in contact with male dogs is when we were are out on walks and she's on a leash so I'm not worried about her getting pregnant. But is there anything else I can do to keep her comfortable during this time? When will I know her cycle is over? And how soon after than can I have her spayed?
I'm soooo disappointed with myself.
