I haven't had an older dog spayed---however, some things to consider:
1) make sure that you have pre-op bloodwork done, to make sure that your dog is in good health
2) Ask what kind of anesthesia your vet uses. I believe that IsoFluorine is the best kind for small dogs
3) have your Vet (not the techs) administer the anesthesia and ask for the techs and your vet to constantly monitor it. Make sure that your vet will do this.
4) make sure that your dog has iv fluids constantly... this will help keep her from being dehydrated
5) keep blood sugars monitored. My little one is/gets hypoglycemic...so they were constantly monitoring her sugar levels.
