From the picture you posted, Phinni looks quite happy in his bowl at that time. I learned that the bubbles form when a male betta is happy/healthy and looking to mate! A little bubble nest like the one at the top of Phinni's bowl forms b/c the mucous in the betta's mouth keeps the bubbles from dissolving. When present, the female lays the eggs in the nest, they get fertilized and.... ok, too much info. But isn't it funny to know exactly when your guy's getting frisky?!  |


Thank you for letting me know about the cold. Actually Phinni has been at the bottom of the bowl. I guess the water is cold. I actually had to tap the bowl before he gets excited about coming up for food.
