Turns out I was born with these "blebs" (kinda like little blisters) on my lungs and it took 30 years for one to pop. This happens more often with newborns because the bleb will pop right after birth. I was told it's not all that uncommon and that it usually happens to "young, thin, healthy (usually) males although sometimes females". Well, I didn't really consider myself "young" anymore but they did. They tried to fix it with a chest tube but when that didn't inflate it, they had to do surgery and staple the blebs. Long recuperation but I am fine now (although they don't know if the other lung has these blebs too).

Sorry to be so long, but if your son is going through something similar (and you didn't say yet WHY his lung collapsed), I thought you might want to ask me some questions. I'd be more than happy to answer any you might have for me. I know my family was at a total loss as to why this happened to me out of the blue and once they started telling people, they heard of other people having this and were able to talk to some and get more info and understand it better. Let me know if I can help.
THANK YOU YT FAMILY FOR ALL YOUR PRAYERS AND POSITIVE THOUGHTS FOR MY SON AND MY FAMILY..............TATUM'SMOM, THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO MY HEALTHY 13 YEAR OLD, HE HAD THE CHEST TUBE IN FOR 10 DAYS AND NOTHING, SO FINALLY YESTERDAY HE HAD SURGERY AND LOSS PART OF HIS LUNG DUE TO THE BLEBS NOT LETTING THE LUNG HEAL, WELL MY SON DOES HAVE SOME ON HIS LEFT SIDE AS WELL BUT NOT POPPED OBVIOUSLY, I FEEL SO CONFUSED BECAUSE HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN SO HEALTY, HE JUST TURNED 13 A MONTH AGO AND HE IS 117 LBS AND 5' 7" TALL SO THEY SAY HE FITS THE CRITIRIA.
