I just recently took Chewy to the vet because she cried when I cleaned her ear, so I figured she had a foxtail in it. And, btw, Don't use q tips in their ears, you could really hurt them. Use a cotton ball or a tissue and your finger. Anyway, Chewy had a foxtail, lots of dark brown gun (NOT ear mites) and too much hair around her ear. So, he pulled the hair around there, and cleaned them out. He gave me Pantanol ointment to use. Now, she hardly scratches her ears. In the past, I would use ear cleaner about once a month, but now I'm going to do it weekly or every two weeks to prevent the buildup in there.
