I am so sorry for your loss. I had the same thing happen a few years ago and my little guy, Jesse, was the heart of my heart. He too was sick all night and I prayed that he would go to Rainbow Bridge on his own, but that was not to be. I am happy that I could make the decision to grant him peace and freedom from his earthly pain.
I know how badly it hurts but you made the right decision. Heartbreak can be part of giving our hearts to these Yorkies but it is worth it. Pay special attention to your remaining little guy and give him the time he needs to grieve. Watch his food and fluid intake, and at times, you might find that he needs to be distracted with a special treat or toy. It will take time for him to get used to being by himself and you might be advised to go out and get another Yorkie right away. That is a decision only you can make.
Give yourselves time to grieve and do not try to hide your feelings. Some might say "He was only a dog!" Shame on them!!! He was a beloved family member and must be grieved for as such. So, seek out people who understand your loss and grief. Don't be surprised if you "feel" him near you. Don't be surprised if you "hear" his little footsteps at the oddest times. That is a part of the loss process. One of my dogs would stand and stare as if he SAW someone or something and I am convinced he was actually seeing Jesse's spirit.
These animals are amazing and your boy will be such a help in getting thru this.
Prayers are being sent your way for peace in your heart as you grieve for your loss.
