The key for a successful AI (regardless of what method is used) is to get the correct breeding date. Progesterone testing or LH surge testing will be far more accurate than a smear. The number of puppies is dependent on how may eggs are present, and how many are fertilized. If the male has lots of viable sperm you should have a good result with AI if you know the timing is right. The size of puppies should not be affected one way or another between AI or natural breeding, that is more genetics, fetal placement, and fetal health. I prefer natural breedings because they are less expensive LOL but I do use progesterone testing for the best chances at pregnancy. |
