I wouldn't say that a yorkie mix is any smarter than a purebred. Chip is purebred and was potty trained really quickly, knew basic commands, plus tricks around 6 months and that was without obedience classes. Some dogs, despite the breed, are just more stubborn than others... doesn't mean they are mentally challenged. Just like kids, some learn more quickly than others. It also depends on training techniques... some dogs learn differently than others.
