From my experience there are many more mix breeds in shelters than purebreds. Although you do see purebreds in the shelters, they are not generally the quality of pets that come from a reputable exhibitor/breeder.....I've yet to find one of those in a shelter. You have to realize, there are a lot of purebred dogs in the pound, the only reason you don't see them, is as Lorraine even said, they hurry and get them out of there...
